During those years she received 16 Army Commendation Medals as well as 3 Meritorious Service Medals accomplishing everything from giving Fort Sam in San Antonio, TX a new way to look at what it takes to teach foreign students brought in from Vietnam to all passing their tests to become medics in the USAR to being an invited speaker to Forscom on Governors Island on how to set up a program in the Reserves with concurrent clinical and didactic to become LPNs/LVNs with Northampton County Area Community College, Bethlehem, PA while quartered on an Army base in Pennsylvania. She was nine years a COL before retirement and, as such, was stationed with the Reserve Support Command in Los Alamitos, CA., where she was assigned to the Investigative Unit. Kathleen Toms graduated from the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, PA receiving a diploma in Strategic Studies.
Her extensive training and education have positioned her as a leader in the Department of Veterans Affairs, where she serves as the Nursing Ed/Veteran and Family Health Education Coordinator. In this role, she is dedicated to educating veterans and their families about health management and wellness. Her focus on communication, safety, and trust ensures that patients feel valued and understood, which are integral components of her patient-centered approach.
